Waka hourua

Waka are built from trees. In Polynesia, waka were narrow and not very strong, because they were carved from narrow trees. Some canoes had outtriggers at the side to keep them balanced. New Zealand had good forests of big trees like tōtara and kauri. What hekenukumai used for tools. It was mostly made from kauri cause they never knew what metal was in the maori legends they used bare hands, rope and wooden tools. After Hekenukumai’s wife had passed, he made another waka named after her Teaurere which can only be voyaged by females. The weight of a waka hourua is 8tons it can support up to 60 people total like all waka this is made out of kauri it has the same equipment on the page to your left.Transporting to other iwi and making a truce and gathering more supplies. Navigating a waka hourua is wayfinding.Raa kei,Rakau,Taha maui, kahokaho, kei, hoe tere, hiwi,Taha matua, aku, manawa, papa noho, tauwa,Taura paa, parewa,Ihu,pou manawa,Raa matua me paepae.
